River Walk, Springfield NH, Fall 2014
(No Photos Were Taken)
River walk consisted of a series of ropes hanging from trees lining the bank of a small river. The ropes were spaced about 15 feet apart from each other. As the viewer walked from rope to rope, they found a leaf tied to the rock that anchored each rope. The first rope had the word "may" written on its leaf in large black cursive letters. The next rope had "this yearning", while the following rope had "be". The next had "the seed", and the next had "of our". The final rope was anchored in the middle of a 10 foot wide circle of rocks that lay within the middle of the river. The viewer had to enter fully into the river to uncover the final word of the prayer, which was "connection". The sequence of words together read "may this yearning be the seed of our connection". The hope was for the viewer to feel some sort of embodied experience of the process/prayer that the piece was pointing towards. After carrying the viewer farther and farther down the river with the unfolding prayer, the experience culminated with a full water immersion within the ceremonial space created by the circle of stones.
